Are you looking for a unique and exciting outdoor pet? As a very healthy, happy eight-year-old African Spurred Sulcata Tortoise, male, weighing a little over 60 Lbs., I am a fun and unique addition to your backyard or ranch and will be the talk of your neighborhood.
Kids love me. I can pull a wagon. My humans say I have a great personality, an amiable attitude, and I am smart for a reptile. Being around humans, young or old, is what I love, as I interact well and am docile, very friendly, always curious and usually hungry. My antics in the backyard are nothing short of hilarious. In fact, I love hats and costumes. When I dress up, I always draw a crowd.
I have been raised on a healthy diet and have a beautiful shell. I really enjoy dozing in the sun and eating Timothy hay, as well as greens, carrots, squash, pumpkin, bell peppers, and cactus pads. My special occasion treats include watermelon, strawberries, and hibiscus or dandelion blossoms. I will dance for strawberries. Plus, I like to have a bowl of water in case I get thirsty, which is rare. (I also love Mazuri® Tortoise LS Diet Food with water as a supplement or if fresh hay or grass isn’t available.) A hose bath or a shallow wading pool for soaking is enjoyable on frequent occasions.
I am a bit adventurous, and my humans have suggested that they want me to rehome to a place with more room to roam in a forever place to live. I love taking walks around the yard or neighborhood. Walking keeps me healthy, and I can walk about 0.3 to 0.75 mph, possibly faster for strawberries or watermelon.
My owners will provide you with my own house that is fitted with heat lamps and a heating pad for the cooler months. A slide-out tray makes cleaning easy. Every evening just before sundown, I head inside my house. I also have a couple of feeding bowls, other gear, and I love to push colored wiffle balls around.
Really, I am mostly care-free and easy. I don’t bark or scratch, but will still race rabbits, if any are brave enough to challenge me. So, if you want a real showstopper, a hit for family barbeques, or a conversation starter for outdoor cocktail parties, let me come live with you and roam in your backyard.
